Learning with Mr. Fawcett
2017-2018 In Loudoun County Civics is a required class taught in the eighth grade. Here at Simpson there are three Civics teachers Mr. Fawcett, Ms. Edwards.& A not yet hired teacher. The text book being used this school year is Civics Today published by Glencoe McGraw-Hill (Copyright 2003). While classes are not always doing the same activity each day it will happen regularly as we share instructional ideas with each other.
Common planning time is being provided to each department at Simpson. That results in common assessments and helps insure the best instruction possible for our students. . For the most part, we as a department have agreed that the LCPS course sequence of the book will be followed. (See syllabus link)
The Virginia Department of Education mandates an end of course test (SOLs) in 8th grade social studies. With learning targets, steps have been taken to see that before the test all required subject matter will have been taught, (learning targets, scope and sequence, benchmark tests, limited re-tests to prove mastery and remediation)
To assist in SOL preparation the Civics teachers at Simpson have decided that the curriculum will be accelerated slightly, to provide for at least three weeks of review before the state SOL test is given in the spring. This will allow us to go back and remind students about what they have learned earlier in the year.
The new and improved parent portal will give all parents the tools they need to stay on top of what their child is doing in school. I strive to keep my homework hotline up to date and posted it in class, where students are asked to write it in their agenda or take a picture of it with their cell phone. I can be reached at school (571) 252-2840 and if I am not available leave a message, I will get back to as soon as I can. You may also e-mail me with any concerns that you may have.

Welcome to Mrs. Paquette’s home page
This is my 35th year as a music educator. I am a graduate of Herndon High School. I received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from James Madison University, with trumpet as my major instrument. I was drum major of both the HHS and JMU marching bands.
I was the band director at Loudoun County High School from 1984 to 1994. I directed the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Pit Band, and Marching Band. During this time, I also taught Guitar, and two classes per day at J. L. Simpson Middle School.
Since 1994, I have been teaching band at JLSMS full time. The J. L. Simpson Middle School Eighth Grade Band has received superior ratings at VBODA Concert Band Assessment for 16 of the past 18 years. Simpson Middle School consistently places many students in District Band, and has a large number of students participate in Solo and Ensemble Assessment each year.
